Aachen 2026 — Your Guide Through the Year Between Lecture Halls, "Bend," and Bass: Don't Miss Out

Aachen 2026: Your roadmap for the year! From high-speed rides at the Osterbend to the legendary Lousberglauf and the Kimiko Festival on Campus Melaten – we show you which highlights are coming up in Aachen this year. Plus: Why the CHIO looks a bit different this year due to the World Equestrian Games and why you absolutely cannot miss the RWTH FH Sports Day.

Spring: Aachen's year starts traditionally colorful, and after the first exams, the Osterbend (April 4 – April 20, 2026) is waiting for you. For those new to the city: The "Bend" is our traditional funfair with rides, roasted almonds, and adrenaline — perfect for a short break from semester stress.

The Summer:
When it gets warm, life moves to Westpark or to the slopes.

  • Lousberglauf (June/July): Whether you run the 5,555 meters yourself or prefer to cheer on the runners with a cold drink — the atmosphere is legendary.

  • Kimiko Isle of Campus: The festival at Campus Melaten has become a fixed part of the year. It combines a tech vibe with first-class indie and electro acts. A must-visit for everyone wanting that festival feeling without traveling far.

  • CHIO Aachen (May 22 – May 24, 2026): In the summer, Aachen becomes the world capital of equestrian sports. Special note for this year: Since Aachen is also hosting the World Equestrian Games in 2026, the CHIO has been rescheduled and features fewer competitions than usual. However, a visit to the Soers is still worth it for the international atmosphere alone.

  • RWTH FH Sports Day (June 10, 2026): This is our day! Together with RWTH, the FH shows what it’s made of during Sports Day at Königshügel. Tournaments, trial courses, and the legendary chill-out area make this day a mandatory appointment.

Autumn & Winter: Culture and Cold

  • In September, the Septemberspecial brings free live music to the city center.

  • The Aachen Christmas Market (Nov 20 – Dec 23, 2026): It is ranked among the top 10 in Europe and is right on our doorstep. A must for every "Öcher" student, even if it's just for a bag of "Printenbruch" or some Printen liqueur.

My Tip: Faculty-internal parties or spontaneous events are often announced at very short notice. To make sure you don't miss anything, you should definitely check the Instagram pages of your student council (FSR) and the AStA (@asta_fhaachen) regularly.
